Doctor Who: 10 Lost Stories We Hope Have Been Found

2. Fury From The Deep

doctor who fury A six-part story where only fragment of clips remain, this is by all accounts, a chilling tale indeed. Another classic second doctor €˜base under siege€™ storyline, only this time there is something in the sea coming for the doomed inhabitants of an oil refinery off the east coast of England. It€™s a story similar to the excellent Inferno of Jon Pertwee€™s debut series as the Third Doctor. A parasitic life form is working its way up to the surface, releasing a foam that takes control of anyone it touches. A clip from series two survives, showing a possessed Mr Oak and Mr Quill releasing a poison gas from their mouths to kill the hapless Maggie Harris. The lack of music. The frenzied heartbeat. The cutaway shots between the suffocating Maggie and the open mouths of the two possessed men. It€™s absolutely horrible to watch. Just look at the image above. If that isn€™t creepy, I don€™t know what is. Some of the other surviving clips are electrifying. The hapless crew member screaming as he is sucked into the foam from episode four. Robson gradual transformation into a sea creature in episode five. The frantic battle against the tentacled creature in the final episode as the foam pours into the control room. We don€™t see much of the creature €“ less is definitely more €“ but the terror in everyone faces, the Doctor€™s included, conveys the menace of this enemy. And apparently there are many more amazing moments lost to us, including the same tragic Maggie, now possessed by the enemy, calmly walks into the sea to her death in the closing moments of episode three. Frankly, this story sounds amazing and I€™m sure it brought plenty of nightmares to its audience in the day. If the rumours are true, my hopes are on this complete story turning up.
