Doctor Who: 10 Most Controversial Mythos Changes Of NuWho

5. The Cracks In Time

When Steven Moffat took over Doctor Who from Russell T Davies there were a number of small issues that were nonetheless troubling fans, such as how a giant Cyberman destroying Victorian London hadn't made it into the history books, and how the fact that everyone on Earth knew about Daleks limited how much a new alien invasion could suprise the characters. The answer to this was the cracks in time, which erased several events from the new series' own history whilst making hordes of Whovians worry about cracks in the wall and allowed the Eleventh Doctor's era to begin with a clean slate - a clean slate that many in the fandom felt was necessary. However. considering how much time has been spent in modern-day London compared to the first four series, it's unclear just how much was erased from time. In fact, the recent invasions of cubes (The Power of Three) and Cybermen (Death in Heaven/Dark Water) suggest that not much changed at all. Even with that in mind, the cracks are still important. Since Gallifrey was hidden behind one in The Time of the Doctor, it's possible they'll still have a part to play in its return, which will be a huge alteration (perhaps the biggest yet) to NuWho's mythos.
