Doctor Who: 10 Most Cringeworthy Moments Of All Time

9. JNT Photocalls

1980s Producer John Nathan-Turner was a flamboyant personality to say the least and loved nothing more than organising pantos full of lovies when he wasn't making Doctor Who (and often he combined the two). He also took great pains to get the show into the newspapers, setting up an elaborate photocall at the start of each season or when a new element was introduced. Now there is nothing new about this, with each female companion in Who history being wheeled out to flash her pins but JNT took these to hitherto unreached embarrassing heights. Who could forget a waxwork Tom Baker or Peter Davison's visible ire as he was forced to pose in a tuxedo, James Bond style, with Nicola Bryant draped over him in a bikini? How about Colin Baker and Bryant doing a dance number with canes and boaters? How about a troupe of camp Cybermen doing the can-can? However, easily the worst is when poor Colin was put in a harness and lifted up on stage with Bonnie Langford as Peter Pan. With his bubble perm, tubby frame and testicles up around his neck, any credibility his Doctor still had left bled away.
