Doctor Who: 10 Most Disturbing Episodes

6. Planet Of The Spiders

Doctor Who The Curse Of Fenric
BBC

Those of you with arachnophobia might want to look away now. Even though spiders are such tiny creatures, many people still find themselves scared stiff whenever they see one of the creepy crawlies. The 11th season of Doctor Who sought to take advantage of this and asked the question, what if they were bigger?

"Planet of the Spiders" was a six-part serial that showed the exploits of the Third Doctor after a fired salesman called Lupton aligns himself with a psychic race of alien spiders called the Eight-Legs (how original) from the planet Metebelis Three. It then becomes the Doctor's job alongside his trusty companion Sarah Jane Smith to end this threat and save the Earth.

Of course, giant spiders are enough in themselves to make this episode disturbing, but it's made even worse by the fact that they can infiltrate a person's brain and manipulate them from the inside. Seeing these giant spiders crawl up someone's back and basically possess them is an incredibly distressing thought.

They may have ended up being bested, but seeing these disgusting creatures for a whole six episodes was utterly disturbing.
