Doctor Who: 10 Most Infuriating Cliffhangers Of The Revived Series

7. Turn Left

Fans of Billie Piper rejoiced and wailed Because We Want To in unison when Rose Tyler made her long awaited comeback at the end of Series 4. Her return episode, Turn Left, is also noted for ending with one of the most dramatic cliffhangers in Doctor Who but in retrospect it was just plain annoying. First of all, every Doctor Who fan across the land gets that Bad Wolf is a pretty big deal. The elusive phrase haunted the Doctor and Rose Tyler throughout their initial travels (predominately in Series 1 but it was also the name of the beach on which they bid their heartbreaking farewell in Series 2) so when it was confirmed that Rose would be reunited with the titular Time Lord in Series 4, everyone pretty much expected that the ominous words would also be back in one way or another. In fact, it would've been an insult to their relationship if they hadn't been. As it turns out, though, Russell T Davies wanted to make absolute sure that viewers definitely knew Rose was back (in case you hadn't figured it out already from her handful of preceding 'cameo' appearances) by ruthlessly shoving 'BAD WOLF' in our face in one of the show's most contrived and self-indulgent scenes of all time. Even the TARDIS exterior was taken over by the foreboding words and, as if that wasn't enough to affirm the sheer gravitas of the universe's impending doom, the console room had turned red and the Cloister Bell was ringing which is when you know that something really smelly and unfavourable is about to hit the transcendental fan. The end of the universe was nigh but did it really need all the fanfare? It must've been a nightmare for the show's art department, too.
