Doctor Who: 10 Most Underrated Tenth Doctor Episodes
8. The Runaway Bride
Doctor Who Christmas specials can be a bit hit and miss owing to the fact they can sometimes come across as rather juvenile. Thankfully, ‘The Runaway Bride’ manages to inject plenty of humour without being too silly.
After Rose’s emotional departure in the previous episode, ‘The Runaway Bride’ brightens the tone considerably, and much of this is down to the interactions between Donna and the Doctor. Far from feeling intimidated by the Timelord, Donna has no hesitation in attacking him both verbally and physically when she wants to.
This episode also has a terrific pace. Despite being fifteen minutes longer than the typical episode, the story moves along quickly with plenty of action sequences, the best of which would have to be the motorway scene.
‘The Runaway Bride’ is certainly one of the more lighthearted episodes of Doctor Who, which is possibly why it isn’t overly popular. However, it does work excellently as a standalone Christmas episode due to how much fun it is.
