Doctor Who: 10 Nu-Who Characters Who Were Just Totally Unlucky
4. The Master/Missy
Of course, The Masters losing streak stretches way back past Nu-Who, but his luck hasnt changed all that much since the shows revival. Whilst The Master - or Missy - has had his (or her - this is just confusing now) small victories, it's undoubted that luck - or a lack thereof - played it's part. From having the same beat of drums playing in his brain from a child, to being shot by his wife, to being resurrected in a failed ritual that leaves him with a body that seems to be both powerful and failing at the same time. Let's not even talk about the whole eating issue. It's all pretty unlucky. The Masters plans always fail The Doctor always manages to come good in the end, leaving The Master to wallow in the self-pity of failure. His failures have often culminated in his death, others have ended with her escape. The truth of the matter is that no single entity has attempted to take on the Doctor more often and failed. Of course there are casualties, but The Masters true plans are never fully realised. Was this a case of repeated bad luck, or just picking a battle The Master can't win? Let's take Missy's most recent plan - trying to turn The Doctor into a similarly psychopathic, Universe conquering Super Time Lord. Not only does the Doctor refuse, but her plans are foiled by, what seems to be, the only two Cybermen who retained both memories and emotions - Danny Pink and the Brigadier. Now there's some bad luck. The Doctor has beaten other enemies before Daleks, Cybermen, Zygons but as a single known enemy, no opponent has a worse record when going one on one with The Doctor than The Master. Still, he or she in her current form - keeps coming back for more. Of course The Doctor being an insurmountable opponent is a big part of why The Master fails so often, but with any victory, luck plays some part and The Master seems to have no luck whatsoever.
