Doctor Who: 10 Nu-Who Characters Who Were Just Totally Unlucky

5. Jack Harkness

History is full of stories of those who have sought a way to live forever. They would try anything, and be willing to give anything in order to find the path to eternal life. Jack Harkness would become immortal, or at the very least not able to be killed, without ever looking or asking for it. Bestowed upon him by the Bad Wolf version of Rose Tyler, Jack Harkness would be given what some would call a curse, others a blessing. To make things worse, he€™s a time traveller with no way to travel through time. Having seen a lot of time and space, it would appear that Jack Harkness has spent most of the last ten years stuck in Cardiff. Of course, Cardiff is a lovely place, but to a man who has been all over the Universe as a Time Agent in the 51st century. In essence, he€™s travelled back through time and has been travelling back to the future the slow way ever since. Jack Harkness has likely seen more loss than any other Doctor Who character. If the events of the Last of the Time Lords is to be believed €“ he may have lived for five billion years. Imagine the death Jack Harkness has seen. Imagine how many people he has lost. Of course, he€™s lived a very long, very fruitful life €“ but how many people will have come into Jack Harkness€™ life and left him behind?
