3. The Curator
The Day of the Doctor was a show that threw up more than its fair share of spine-tingling moments, and this was, chronologically speaking, the last of them. Having said goodbye to the War Doctor and the Tenth Doctor, Eleven stood alone surveying the painting Gallifrey Falls. Having been told that the Curator wanted to see him, he waited until a voice turned his head. This was a moment that will stay with Doctor Who fans forever as it was a moment of revelation for older fans and one of discovery for the younger ones. Any Doctor Who fan, Nu or original, knows about Tom Baker. Whether being told by friends or relatives, the Fourth Doctor is widely considered to be the best Doctor of all time. His long scarf, wide-brimmed hat and jelly babies have been recognisable through the ages and his is often the first face that comes to mind when non-fans are asked about the Doctor himself. As such, the touching moment between Eleven and his former self was enough to bring a shiver to the spine. The revelation that Gallifrey was still out there, somewhere, waiting to be found was almost lost in the wonderful moment that was the return of Four to our screens. It was a fitting end to an anniversary special that had been full of nostalgia.
