Doctor Who: 10 NuWho Moments That Took Your Breath Away

4. Hello Clara

In March 2012 it was revealed that Jenna Coleman would be the name to replace Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill as the Doctor€™s companion. It was initially announced that her character would enter the TARDIS during the 2012 Christmas Special but when Doctor Who returned for it€™s seventh series, the Asylum of the Daleks already looked like an amazing story to start off the series. Rory and Amy were estranged and fans were taking a trip to the place where the most insane of Daleks were sent. As the opening credits came to their end, though, they were greeted to a voice. A familiar voice to some, but a different voice to most. Nothing unusual, extra characters were nothing new to Doctor Who. But when a face was put to the name, there was a real moment of shock. Jenna Coleman! The new companion! Far too early. The old companions weren€™t even gone and here she was, parading around in a little red dress, failing to make soufflés, flirting with the Doctor... The thing that really made this moment special was the instant chemistry between Jenna and Matt, despite never being in the same room. They were flirty, they were feisty and they were funny. It gave fans a taste of what was to come. They hadn€™t even come to terms with Amy and Rory leaving and here they were, making eyes at a new companion already! And then... spoilers... she died. Viewers were shocked to find that Soufflé Girl had been turned into a Dalek and thus began the mystery of the impossible girl. Fans would have to wait another eight and a half months to find out just who Clara Oswin Oswald really was.
