4. Bill Nighy Could Have Been The Doctor
Rather interesting this one. In an interview in 2011, Nighy said that he had been offered the role but couldnt say when. Back in 2004 The Sun reported (I use the term loosely when in conjunction with The Sun) that Nighy was on the shortlist for the part of the Ninth Doctor which eventually went to Christopher Eccleston. Interestingly, if you read Moffats interviews from around the time he became executive producer, he quite often said that he wanted an older Doctor. However, the next thing we know, he changed his mind and young is in with Matt Smith being the youngest Doctor yet. It could be suggested that Moffat offered Nighy the job but he turned it down. Of course, this is all speculation. Nighy eventually did appear in the show in Richard Curtiss 2010 story Vincent and The Doctor alongside the new Doctor, Matt Smith.
