Doctor Who: 10 Obscure Facts You Never Knew

3. John Leekley Was Going To Make A Doctor Who Series

Doctor Who John Leekley is best known as the executive producer on US series Spawn, but back in the 90s he wanted to tackle Doctor Who. When Universal Television started having ideas about doing a Doctor Who series, they asked Leekley to write an outline for his idea of what the series would look like. Leekley€™s version was this: The Doctor was now half human; he was on a quest to find his father, Ulysses who had left Gallifrey long ago, went to America and became a farmer. The Doctor would be €œaided€ in his mission with former president, Borusa, who had merged with the TARDIS . Additionally, The Master was the leader of the Timelords and The Cybermen were now pirates. Bonkers. And just to offer even more disservice to the classic series, he wanted to remake several classic Who stories with an American twist - The Daemons would be set in Salem and The Sea Devils would be set off the coast of Louisiana. Whatever you think of the TV movie, it has to be better than what Leekley suggested.
