"The sun's going out and you're photographing a man and a dog. Why?" The Doctor to Rory Williams in The Eleventh Hour
From his very first on screen appearance, Rory was proving himself something special, even if it went uncelebrated at the time. In 2010's The Eleventh Hour, Rory is one of the first to spot that something is amiss and everything isn't quite what it seems. That, in turn, leads to him doing his best 'Sherlock' impression by photographing coma patients, even when the sun is going out. This is the earliest instance of Rory displaying his indefinable and indefatigable tenacity. Like a dog with a bone, once Rory sets his mind on something, he won't let it go. Be that believing something's happening to all the coma patients, or winning Amy Pond's heart in earnest. Rory Williams is a man with a can-do attitude. Though he is, initially, painted out as a somewhat meek and buffoonish character, it does give us an indication of just how valuable Rory would prove himself over the course of his time on board the TARDIS. A special mention, also, for Rory's main issue with the events in the episode being that the Doctor steals some peoples' clothes...
