Doctor Who: 10 Potential Actors Who Could Play The 14th Doctor
8. James McAvoy
Whilst writing this article I realise that a few of my choices are wishful thinking. But, never say never! With this pick it's simply a case of I love James McAvoy. I think he's a terrific actor that has a wide array of acting abilities, and he's proven this time and time again. Looking at his portrayal of Charles Xavier in the X-Men franchise you can easily see how his Doctor would operate.
I'm imagining him being this hopeful hero that believes he can fix the problems of the universe. Perhaps he could come across as a bit naïve at times, and ultimately makes mistakes that costs him dearly, creating a huge amount of baggage on his shoulders that make him doubt himself and his abilities. This could create a very depressing, but enlightening journey into The Doctor's mind, and how he faces the burdens of his existence, whilst finding a way to keep moving forward despite the negatives of walking eternity.
Overall, I feel his presence would be much appreciated. And I'd certainly love it if he could retain his native Scottish accent similar to Peter Capaldi. I think his charm, his wit, his fun personality would all be beneficial in moving Doctor Who forward towards a brighter future. Also, it would be interesting seeing James McAvoy channel some of his unsettling performance from Split into Doctor Who, perhaps through a narrative that forces The Doctor to face his inner demons, or that his mind becomes warped as the dimensions of space and time collapses all around him.
