Doctor Who: 10 Potential Actors Who Could Play The 14th Doctor

For as long as I can remember Olivia Colman was the front woman to play the first female incarnation of The Doctor. Sadly, the honour went to her Broadchurch co-star Jodie Whitaker instead. But that's not to say that Olivia Colman can never take up the mantle. Personally, back when I wasn't sure whether a female Doctor would work I always had reassurance with the notion of Olivia Colman taking on the role simply because she's such a fine actress.

It's fair to say that she's got a wide range when it comes to acting. From her natural comedy in Hot Fuzz, all the way to her deep dramatized presence in Broadchurch where she delivered so much heart. Particularly in the later seasons after her reputation was damaged, and she was forced to bare the burden of her husband's crimes. Also, she made for a pretty decent villain during her appearance in The Eleventh Hour.

Sometimes you get an actor that comes along who establishes a clear dynamic which defines their incarnation of The Doctor. Other times an actor demonstrates a larger package through a full on dive into the Time Lord's psyche, channelling the wider ranges of The Doctor's persona. For instance, Tom Baker and Matt Smith were great at being able to pull off different emotional depths from the hearts and mind of the alien time traveller, while simultaneously switching between these personality traits with absolute ease.

Olivia Colman would be excellent at this I think. She holds all the necessary ranges to pull this off. Without a doubt she could be fun, adventurous, stern, emotional, friendly, and wonderous in one finely tuned package, jumping flawlessly back and fourth to generate a well balanced, and beloved rendition of our favourite Time Lord.
