Doctor Who: 10 Protagonists They Should Bring Back

1. Romana II (And III)

Romana With all this talk of whether Twelve should be a female Doctor, people kept missing the point that there already is a female Timelord (or Timelady) out there...Romana. Sure there's the possibility laid out that she became President of Gallifrey during the Time War until Rasillon took power, but as far as I'm concerned, the last time we saw her was staying behind in E Space in 'Warriors Gate'. She could still be there now... So why not bring her back into the show? The first option would be to bring back Lalla Ward, as an older Romana II, returning to normal space only to find that Gallifrey is destroyed and her Timelord race is dead. Imagine the Doctor helping an old friend and member of his race coming to terms with the horrors that happened. An older, confident, but less cocksure Romana would be an interesting dynamic to take. And perhaps lead to a regeneration into Romana III that could reoccur throughout the show like River or Jack? If Lalla Ward doesn't come back or Moffat (or a future show runner) wants to reveal Romana is a similar shocking fashion to the Master in 'Utopia', then what about heading straight into Romana III? Or IV? Or V? A character that travels with the Doctor from time to time, while having adventures of her own? Perhaps with her own companion in tow? There's always talk about whether the Master will return? Or the Rani? Or (my choice) the Meddling Monk? But really, if you want a Timelord character back on the show, then Romana really is the way to go. And that is my list. Are there other heroes from Classic and Nu Who that you think need to make a return to the show? Or would you rather the show keeps moving forward, focusing on new and interesting characters and leaving old protagonists in past episodes? Given the rich history of Doctor Who, I think there should be a healthy mix on the show. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
