Doctor Who: 10 Reasons David Tennant Deserved His Special Recognition Award

4. He's A Natural Risk Taker

Hollywood was in Tennant€™s sights when he departed Doctor Who but this actor has always liked to keep things varied. So while he made an eye-catching appearance in the 2011 remake of Fright Night, he also chose a decidedly less starry place for his most recent movie role, the Scottish Highlands and a low key comedy drama. Writers Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin had carved out an unusual niche for themselves on the TV landscape, penning newsroom satire Drop The Dead Donkey and going on to great success with Outnumbered, a sitcom which famously featured actors reacting to the random musings of kids as they happened. It was unexpected perhaps when the pair decided to put this format on the big screen but Tennant was one of those who wanted to take up the challenge, portraying a Dad with foibles in What We Did On Our Holiday. Going back over his career, he opted for a small role in an ensemble cast for Stephen Poliakoff€™s period thriller Glorious 39 and selected further potential humiliation at the hands of improvising and unruly children for Nativity 2: Danger In The Manger.
