Doctor Who: 10 Reasons Shona McCullough Should Be A New Companion
2. She Dreams Of A More Interesting Life
This one could tie in with the aforementioned 'using humour as a defence mechanism' thing. Shona is obviously a victim of a mundane existence in the real world and the fact she's a shop girl who dreams she's a scientist is enough to vouch for that. Will the Doctor end up rescuing her from the confines of her repetitious routine and give her a new lease of life by showing her the stars? He's done it before, of course, and the name 'Rose Tyler' comes to mind. It would also be somewhat fitting, in the 10th anniversary year of the revived series, to welcome a companion whose introduction harks back to the one who started it all (as far as NuWho is concerned, anyway). What's more, you just can't help but feel sorry for Shona and she definitely comes across as the sort of person who needs - and, perhaps more importantly, deserves - a break. Transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary is what the Doctor's all about and Shona would definitely fit the bill. She's already equipped with enough feistiness to take on what life as a time traveller would throw at her with enough potential to learn and grow from the experiences the Doctor could offer. In a nutshell, if she doesn't become a new companion (this is all just speculation, after all), someone will just have to go ahead and write a fan fiction series in which she does, though something tells us there's already multiple ones in development.
