Doctor Who: 10 Reasons Why 3D Is The Wrong Idea

9. Where The Heck Do We Get The Classes?

doctor who 3d Now, this is strictly about the televised viewing which will be broadcast in both 3D and 2D. British viewers may be able to acquire the glasses locally, but that doesn€™t help the show€™s global fanbase. Doctor Who may be a cultural phenomenon in the UK, but it€™s become bigger than that. Americans, Australians, New Zealanders and more have embraced the show wholeheartedly and the BBC knows this. When Series 6 premiered, they desperately tried to court American audiences by sending the cast and Steven Moffat across the continent for interviews and publicity events. Heck, even the Series 7 premiere had a special showing in New York. To their credit, it did pay off- the premieres had the highest ratings BBC America had even seen. They didn€™t even have to rely on big advertisers to get notice. But therein lays the problem. The glasses have to be distributed somewhere. Where are we going to get them? Subway? Radio Shack? Steal them from the movie theater? It€™s really not worth the effort, and the 3D broadcast probably won€™t get as many views as the BBC would like, which would be serious egg on their corporate face for a special showing of their flagship program.
