Doctor Who: 10 Revived Series Episodes You'll Only Watch Once

9. Closing Time

Another entry featuring the Cybermen here and this is the one where the Doctor saved the world with love which, ironically, wasn't his finest hour. For some reason, the metal monsters were taking over a department store but their umpteenth comeback did also pave the way for the return of James Corden as Craig Owens (more on him soon!) which is probably what has saved this episode from being completely fizzled out of the show's mythology. Apart from Matt Smith and James' on screen chemistry and the introduction of Craig's son Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All (he's actually called Alfie but his nickname is much better), there really isn't that much else that happens here. Like... at all. Even Amy Pond is nowhere to been seen after leaving the Doctor at the end of the last episode, although she does conveniently pop up to sign an autograph when it's revealed that she's now a fragrance model for seemingly no reason whatsoever. Even that isn't as bizarre as what comes next, though, when the Cybermen unleash their deadly Cybermats but, as you probably guessed, our heroes managed to save the day and were home in time for Alfie's tea. Brilliant. So, what was actually the point of this episode, then? There are some nice character moments scattered throughout but that's unfortunately your lot, folks. Perhaps guest star Lynda Baron should've brought Pippin along with her to make the whole thing a bit more interesting. Let's be honest, him scaring the Cybermen off with a bark would've been a lot more convincing than what actually happened...
