Doctor Who: 10 Superfans Who Landed Starring Roles
7. Peter Capaldi
Now, if you thought David Tennant was a mega-fan of Doctor Who, wait until you hear all about the Whovian life of Peter Capaldi, The Twelfth incarnation of The Doctor, taking over from the relatively unknown Matt Smith. During this teenage years, Peter would often write to the Radio Times magazines telling them how much he had or hadn't enjoyed that year's Doctor Who Christmas special, most of which were published in the famed magazine.
Peter also wrote to the BBC asking if they had any promotional images for the upcoming series as well and wanting to know if he would be able to take the role of Doctor Who Fan Club Secretary. Both of which received a firm and disappointing response.
But that's not all. In the mid-1970s, Steven Moffat and David Tennant both stood inline to meet the Fourth Doctor, Tom Baker, at a local book signing.
“I had a poster of Tom Baker on my wall, signed on the bottom. He came to John Menzies, which is a bookshop in Glasgow. He came to John Menzies, in 1970-I’m-not-quite-sure-what, I went along and got the Doctor Who Monster Book which had a poster in the middle and Tom Baker signed it. I only recently found out that there was somebody who missed it, who came too late with his book and didn’t get it signed that day. Peter Capaldi turned up late. So yeah it’s quite weird that three of us, for whom Doctor Who has ended up being quite a large part of our life, were nearly in the same queue in John Menzies that day.” - David Tennant
