Peter Davison, the Fifth and at the time youngest Doctor, took over from the longest ever Doctor, Tom Baker. Peter has often credited his interest to the show down to the amazing performance given by the second Doctor, Patrick Troughton.

The two of them did get to star together in the shows 20th Anniversary special, The Five Doctors which saw Peter Davison, Jon Pertwee and Patrick Troughton alongside Richard Hurdell as the first Doctor with lost footage of Tom Baker used at the start of the episode.

"I was the first Doctor that grew up watching the show. It was very strange to be actually offered the part. It was like being offered the part of your childhood hero. As an actor, i thought about being in the series but never actually playing the part. How has it changed my life? I don't know. I've lived with it now since we did it."

In recent years Davison came under fire from fans and other Doctors for his worried views on a woman being cast as The Doctor.
