Doctor Who: 10 Things You Never Knew About Series 7 Of NuWho

2. The TARDIS Didn't Like Clara

To say the TARDIS is tempermental would be the understatement of the century. Once Clara Oswald joined the Doctor as a full time companion, though, viewers saw just how moody this little (big) blue box can truly be. Whether it was refusing to open its doors for her, deleting rooms she was trying to access, or trying to make her jealous by showing all the previous female companions the Doctor has had over the years, it was fairly obvious that the Doctor's longest tenured companion didn't like his most recent one. Across the years he's had various companions, so why would she (The TARDIS is indeed female) be this upset over Clara Oswald, then? There are two very probable explanations for this. Firstly, Clara joins very shortly after the Eleventh Doctor loses the only two people - apart from River - he has travelled with inside the TARDIS, permanently. The only other companion the Doctor lost on such a permanent basis since the revival of the series was Rose Tyler, and she even found a way to get her happy ending with the metacrisis Doctor, so he was able to rest easy knowing that she would at least experience happiness, even if he had great loss. Amy and Rory, though, were gone forever. While they did lead a long and fruitful life, it was without the Doctor, and this tore him up inside. Perhaps the TARDIS sensed this and felt like Clara was only there to fill the void left by the loss of his two dear friends? Secondly, Clara is a very strong Type-A personality, the type that could easily push the Eleventh Doctor around to get her way if she wanted to (oh, and she wants to!). This did not sit well with the TARDIS at all, as she sees herself as not only his ship, but as his protector as well. The only one that gets to bully the Doctor is the TARDIS. Well, as far as the TARDIS is concerned, at least...
