Doctor Who: 10 Things You Never Knew About Series 7 Of NuWho
4. The Night Of The Doctor
By now, just about any fan who calls themselves a true Whovian has seen this 7 minute short episode detailing the end of the Eighth Doctor's tenure (if you haven't... you're a disgrace!). For those that only watch as the show comes on the telly, though, the reveal of Paul McGann's long awaited regeneration scene, as well as the great Sir John Hurt as the War Doctor, has probably (somehow) passed you by. It caused many "geek out" moments across the Whoniverse to say the very least. The Night of the Doctor showed that even in the face of the worst challenge his people had ever faced, the Doctor still tried to help a woman he hardly knew escape the perils of her crashing ship, and, if he had his way, he would've stopped the Time War in general. It was Kess' death (as well as his own, possibly) that pushed him over the edge and denounce the name of the Doctor in order to become a soldier to fight in the Time War. And here's something else of note regarding the Eighth Doctor. He was technically dead when he came into being, and he was technically dead when he regenerated as well, making him the only Doctor thus far to have suffered that fate (the Third Doctor had passed away before his regeneration - a fellow Time Lord had given his cells the boost they needed in order to start the regeneration process). He certainly knows how to make an entrance/exit!
