Doctor Who: 10 Things You Never Realised About Series 6 Of NuWho

8. Farewell To A Friend

Brigadier Sir Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, or just the Brigadier for short (and thank God for that, because saying his full name each time he was mentioned would be a mouthful!), was a faithful friend and companion of the Doctor in each of his Classic Who forms, save the First Doctor himself. While he did not make an appearance in Doctor Who when it was revived, he did have a final appearance in the spin off The Sarah Jane Adventures. Sadly, his real life alter ego, Nicholas Courtney, passed away in February 2011. In Doctor Who, a few months after he had passed, The Doctor found out of his friend's death via a telephone call by a nurse, as he had wanted to visit the Brigadier during his "farewell tour". While the Brigadier did later receive a final farewell to the Doctor in Series 8 (as well as that salute he had always wanted the Doctor to render him), the world of Doctor Who is a bit emptier without the guidance of the Brigadier. He's gone but he'll never be forgotten.
