Doctor Who: 10 Times A Companion Stole The Show

1. Clara Oswald

The Name Of The Doctor Making multiple appearances in Doctor Who before becoming a regular TARDIS traveller is hardly uncommon but dying twice and still managing to appear is no mean feat. Sounds spookily like the Doctor himself, actually. Had Clara's face changed than many would have assumed that she was indeed a Time Lord, destined to flit in and out of the Doctor's life as she pleased. Having kept the same likeness, however, it was quickly assumed she was not of Gallifreyan origin. So just how could it be possible that Clara Oswald would have lived in various moments of the Doctor's life? From the Asylum of the Daleks to Victorian England to present day London, the mystery bubbled nicely through Clara's early episodes and it even had the Doctor coming to his almost furious wits end. In the episode Hide, the Doctor confronted Clara about her true identity, seemingly sure she had been sent by one of his enemies, much like River Song had in the past. It was, however, in the Series 7 finale The Name of the Doctor that fans found out the truth. To save the Doctor, and in turn every person and planet he'd saved in his life, at Trenzalore, Clara sacrificed herself by jumping into his time stream and finding herself in almost every moment of the Doctor's history, saving him, helping him, often without ever being seen or heard. That, however, is how Clara Oswald would become the girl who died and died and died again. Understandably, many have been angered by just how Clara-centric the final episodes of Matt Smith's tenure in the TARDIS became but it is unquestionable that without Clara Oswald, not one of the previous companions mentioned would have ever met Tte Doctor, not a single enemy would have been defeated and not a single race of people saved. From now and forever, following the events of The Name of the Doctor, fans will have to accept that without Clara Oswald, there would be no Doctor. That is the most overshadowing moment of them all.
