Doctor Who: 10 Times Captain Jack Died And Lived To Tell The Tale

9. When Javelins Attack

Isn't it funny how it's always the ones who can't die that end up dying the most? It must be fun for writers to come up with new and amusing ways of killing off such characters but over the years Jack Harkness has taken it to the extreme - and then some. Nobody knows how they'd react to discovering that they were actually immortal but Jack's way of dealing with the life-changing circumstance apparently involved getting himself killed repeatedly. It's often said that death is all around and that's literally true in Jack's case. So just what was Jack getting up to throughout the many years - centuries, to be more precise - he spent on Earth waiting to be reunited with the Doctor? Well, he got shot through the heart for starters, and then he fell off a cliff, got trampled by a horse and that was before both the World Wars came along. He was even poisoned and died of starvation along the way, too, and then there was also that case of the stray javelin... Seriously. He just got downright careless. It wasn't long before his ability to cheat death caught the attention of the mysterious Torchwood who enlisted him (after killing him themselves a few times - just 'cause!) as their latest member. As you know, it's a role he's remained in to this very day and he slowly worked his way up the ranks - dying a few more times along the way - and eventually become the leader of the Cardiff branch in 2000. The 21st century is when everything changes, and Jack was ready.
