Doctor Who: 10 Times The Doctor Was The Bad Guy

9. Destroying Skaro

Dalek Emperor Davros Remembrance of the Daleks
BBC

Remembrance of the Daleks is consistently voted as one of the strongest serials in Doctor Who's history, opening the twenty-fifth season with a bang. The Doctor and Ace travel back to 1963, leading to several references to the Doctor's own history. Coal Hill School features prominently in the serial as well. Davros and Daleks return, which seems across time to only bring out the worst in the Time Lord.

Davros seeks the Hand of Omega, a devastating weapon of Time Lord origin. Around them, two factions of Daleks fight it out for control, while human soldiers enter the fray as well. Davros eventually gains control of the device while the Doctor feigns terror at the idea of using the device.

The Doctor himself had planted the Hand in a graveyard back in 1963, which allows for a continuity joke as a grave digger remembered him as an 'old geezer with white hair', but it also meant that the Doctor had booby-trapped the Hand. After tricking Davros into using it, Skaro, the home planet of the Daleks, is destroyed as their sun goes supernova.

Even Ace questions the Doctor on this one, asking if what they have done was the right thing. Uncertain, the Doctor answers that only time will tell.
