Doctor Who: 10 Times The Doctor Was The Bad Guy
7. Brutal Pragmatism
In war, there are hard choices to make and there are suicide missions that occasionally are needed for the greater good. One such mission befalls Ross, a soldier in the Combined Galactic Resistance, though the man never knew that his fate was decided by the Doctor himself. Shrunk to miniature size, he is given a radioactive power cell that the Doctor tells him will keep him safe.
The power cell is highly necessary, yet not for the reason that Ross believes. He is quickly found and killed by the Dalek antibodies that hover through the metal casing. This cell will then allow the Doctor to trace where the organic residue will end up. It is one of the coldest decisions that the Doctor had made to that point, enraging Ross's squadron leader and shocking Clara at the same time.
The Doctor's rationale of this act, that the soldier was dead regardless of what any of them did, falls flat in the ears of those around him. This was a worrying development in the Time Lord, particularly as it came so soon in the Twelfth Doctor's tenure as well.
