Doctor Who: 10 Times The Doctor Went To War

7. World War II

This real-world war lasted between 1939 and 1945, but the Doctor and his companions have frequented it several times.

Due to its complexity as a fixed-point in time, the Doctor is often unable to change events and help the allies win the war before its time. However, whether it be aiding Winston Churchill in defeating a new race of Daleks, or hiding from an army of gas mask-wearing zombies, the Doctor has still had their work cut out.

Memorable moments from WWII adventures include a Union Flag-wearing Rose Tyler hanging from a barrage balloon during an air raid, and Spitfire fighter jets attacking an orbiting Dalek ship.

Having met Winston Churchill previously in several incarnations off-screen, there's every chance that we'll see the Doctor return to this infamous battleground. Both 2010's Victory of the Daleks and 2005's The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances were set in 1941 and feature different Doctors in a blitzed London, demonstrating that this war is too huge for only one Time Lord to fight.
