Doctor Who: 10 Ultimate Martha Jones Moments

2. Smith And Jones

Bet none of you saw this one coming, did you? Needless to say, Martha had been a busy girl since fans had last seen her walking hand in hand with Captain Jack Harkness at the end of Journey's End. If you assumed that she'd be joining Torchwood as a fully fledged member, though, it turns out you were wrong. Very, very wrong. In fact, when she returned to our screens during the Tenth Doctor's final 'reward' in The End of Time, it was revealed that she had abandoned the confines of alien busting organisations to fight the good fight as a freelance Earth defender alongside her new husband. And she had the gun and badass braids to prove it! Oh, and her new husband was Mickey Smith, by the way, just to throw that spanner into the works. Whatever happened to her initial spouse, Tom Milligan, is anybody's guess, but it kind of makes sense that Martha met and subsequently fell in love with the one other person who was left psychologically and emotionally damaged by the rollercoaster that was Rose Tyler. It's even almost romantic, in a weird, disconcerting sort of way. Smith and Jones, though. How could it possibly fail?
