To many it seems almost impossible to believe that Tom Baker is 80 years old. During the 1970s Tom's Fourth Doctor seemed a timeless figure, striding nonchalantly through the cosmos giving out jelly babies and bon mots. His was a Doctor that was comforting but scary, friendly yet alien, funny and also deathly serious. Even today, the iconography of his era such as the scarf and K9 remain enduring images that the public hold of the show, forty years later.
