Doctor Who: 10 Worst Episodes Of The Decade

6. Let's Kill Hitler (2011)

The Eleventh Doctor’s second series was plagued by Steven Moffat’s overambition, and the eighth episode is the worst example of this.

‘Let’s Kill Hitler’ is complex to the point of mental exhaustion. Sure, it does become more digestible with repeated viewings, but it’s very hard to enjoy when watching for the first time owing to the relentless pace. Indeed, it feels like Moffat was trying to cram as many twists as possible into forty-five minutes.

River Song is also a problem. Though such a character can be entertaining at times, her confidence blurs into arrogance in ‘Let’s Kill Hitler’.

As such, the ending – which is supposed to be emotional – fails to resonate as the audience is rather fatigued by this stage.

It’s a shame Moffat didn’t rein in his ambition with Series 6. If he had of done, episodes such as ‘Let’s Kill Hitler’ would have had far more impact.
