Doctor Who: 11 Reasons We Love Matt Smith (And The Eleventh Doctor)

3. Pond Specs

Once again this item in the list doesn't refer to the article of clothing itself but what it means to the Doctor. The Eleventh Doctor's costume changes and evolves over the course of time outwardly displaying the influence that his friends have had upon him. The stetson seen in 'The Impossible Astronaut', 'Closing Time' and 'The Wedding of River Song' it transpires is a sentimental comfort blanket that he holds on to. Reminding him of the last friend he met with before his death, giving him the courage to face his ultimate destiny.

Similarly touching is his last memento of the Ponds, Amy's reading glasses that just happen to be in his prescription. Even though she's not in his life anymore Amy continues to heal and complete him. These mementos pay worthy tribute to the recent past, they are solid proof of the effect that people have on Matt's Doctor. Whats more, those glasses look far better on Matt than they ever did on Amy.

Whilst not writing articles for WhatCulture! Stephen can usually be found livin' it up in the city or livin' it down on the couch in front of one of many DVDs. You can tell how many of his friends are in Edinburgh at any given time by measuring how prolific he is on this site.
