Doctor Who: 11 Things You Never Knew About Series 5 Of NuWho

10. Amelia Pond Is Actually Karen Gillan's Cousin

Caitlin Blackwood, who played young Amelia Pond in The Eleventh Hour and The Big Bang, delivered an amazing performance, so much so that she was the first child on the show that audiences could actually imagine being the Doctor's bonafide companion. Looking back, there is a great likeness and delivery in Blackwood that matches Karen Gillian's portrayal as the older Amy. There's a very good reason for this, too, as Gillian and Blackwood are actually real life cousins. Gillian apparently begged the producers to cast her cousin even though they had never actually met her until the read through. The results were magical and the fish custard scene stands out as one of the highlights of Series 5.
