9. Similarities With Spearhead From Space

The debut episode of the Eleventh Doctor shares many similarities with that of the Third Doctor. Both featured a complete change of Doctor, companions and producers and acted as a fresh slate for the show. Both stories also begin with the TARDIS crashing to Earth and a dazed Doctor stumbling from the smoking vessel. Coincidence? Unlikely! And the connection doesn't end there, either. Even the filming locations are the same as the hospital where the Eleventh Doctor encounters the Atraxi is the same hospital that the comatose Third Doctor is taken too in Spearhead from Space. Both Doctors also steal the clothing from the hospital that they subsequently adopt as their own outfits. On another interesting note, clothing retailer Topman noted that they had a 94% increase in bow tie sales after the broadcast of the first episode, during which the Eleventh Doctor famously announced (and not for the last time) that "bow ties are cool". Turns out they really are, too!
