Doctor Who: 12 Great Big Finish Stories You Have To Listen To

9. Voyage To Venus

As well as the Doctor Who tales themselves, Big Finish has developed a number of spin off that focus on the Daleks, the Cybermen and print companion Professor Benny Summerfield. They also launched new adventures for classic double act Jago and Litefoot, the two Victorians from Tom Baker's classic 1977 serial The Talons of Weng-Chiang. Their adventures have been so popular that the duo are now on their ninth boxset of stories.

Two special releases had the pair finally travel in the TARDIS, this time with the Sixth Doctor. As written by Jonathan Morris, probably Big Finish's most consistently excellent writer, Voyage to Venus is a delight with steam powered cloud cities in the sky, an evil green furred Queen voiced by the lovely Juliet Aubrey and, for fans of Jon Pertwee's time, some sly explanations for all things Venus including why a Venusian lullaby has the same tune as God Rest You Merry Gentlemen!

Teamed up with Colin Baker's theatrical Sixth Doctor, Christopher Benjamin and Trevor Baxter are a delight, effortlessly recreating their characters from the mid-1970s. The following tale, Voyage to the New World by Matthew Sweet, is a more thoughtful affair.
