Doctor Who: 13 Doctor/Monster Match-Ups Fans Would Love To See

9. The Fifth Doctor vs. the Vampires

THE DOCTOR: The Fifth Doctor, arguably, is the kindest of them all, so much so that even the Tenth modelled his own personality after him. He travels through time and space embracing new and old species with open arms and willing to give them the benefit of the doubt with the belief that perhaps they may change for the better. This causes him to question his decisions every time he aims to take a heartless or even evil cause of action, belying his feckless charm and adventuring exterior. THE ENEMY: That's right kids, despite what you thought, vampires are indeed real. First encountered on screen in E-Space (a parallel universe), it was revealed that the Ancients of Gallifrey did their utmost to wipe out all vampires from this universe, and the Fourth Doctor did the rest in the next. Nevertheless, they are the greatest scourges of the universe, possibly rivalling the Ancients of Gallifrey at the height of their power without the (arguably existing) moral compass of the Time Lords. THE BATTLE: What should The Doctor do when he faces a true threat to humanity that he has the power to crush? That sort of moral dilemma would come to the fore as the Fifth Doctor fights his way to the vampire nest and has them beaten at his feet - should he let them live and possibly condemn others to suffer, or continue his people's tradition of genocide? Power corrupts, and often times The Doctor has stayed his hand for fear of becoming as morally corrupt as the creatures he faces, with devastating consequences. This battle, whether to destroy them for good, is not against the vampires, but against himself. ALTERNATIVE ENEMY: Sentient Cricket Balls that fly around and attack people. The best part would probably be the Fifth Doctor with a cricket bat, hitting as many sixes as he can to stall for time while his companions search for a solution. Just imagine the Fifth Doctor, eyes gleaming, snatching a bat and muttering, "This is your time now, Doctor!"
