The TARDIS gets a fresh coat of paint in Series 5, going from the darker blue of the Tennant era to a much more vibrant blue, fitting of Matt Smith's more whimsical Doctor.

Near the end of the commentary, Willis recalls that Moffat and production designer Edward Thomas had "a lot of conversations" about the updated look of the box's exterior, with Moffat specifically requesting that much brighter blue.

The writer cites the non-canon Peter Cushing Dr. Who movies as the inspiration behind this choice, claiming that he "loved" the "very very blue" look of this particular TARDIS.

We have to agree with Moffat on this one - this TARDIS looks sleek as hell.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
