Doctor Who: 14 Cool Details Revealed In Steven Moffat's Eleventh Hour Commentary

6. The Apple Scene Came Dangerously Close To Being Cut

Right in the middle of the episode, there's a terrific little moment where Amy accepts that the Doctor is real and that the Earth is in severe danger, and she starts to believe in him as a real hero - rather than as her imaginary friend.

It's a standout moment, which is why it's painful to hear that it almost didn't make the cut. In fact, according to Moffat, there was once a version of the episode where it was cut - a version that was even screened to a few members of the public for testing purposes.

The reason for this is because there was an earlier line of dialogue that hit a similar emotional beat to the apple scene. But when this earlier dialogue was cut, the apple scene became more of a "unique" moment, and so, it was added back in.

And thank god it was, too. The music, the visuals, the acting - it's all top-notch.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
