Doctor Who: 15 Greatest NuWho Deaths So Far
13. Madame Kovarian (The Wedding Of River Song)
Speaking of the deaths of love-to-hate villains, there's another in the #13 slot. Madame Kovarian, played by Frances Barber, was the main villain of Series 6. She put together a plan to kill the Doctor, genuinely believing that he needed to be killed in order to prevent the Time War from restarting. She believed she was doing the right thing, as do all good villains. However, the venom she directed towards our heroes, and horrendous acts such as kidnapping Amy and stealing away her child, showed that Kovarian was on the side of bad.
These horrible acts make her death particularly satisfying. She dies as a result of the eyepatch she wears to remember the Silence, which has an inbuilt flaw that allows the memory-melding creatures to electrocute anyone who's wearing them. They betray the people working for them, such as Kovarian, which the villain should probably have seen coming. That hubristic element added an interesting layer to the moment, but Amy's involvement adds to proceedings. Kovarian's eye-patch comes loose, and Amy reattaches it in the face of Kovarian's jeers, getting her revenge and a badass moment. Which she late feels bad about, admittedly.
Points are lost as the death probably didn't have any material effect, as it happened in an aborted timeline. But it's still a great scene nonetheless.
