Doctor Who: 15 Greatest NuWho Deaths So Far

12. Captain Jack Harkness (The Parting Of The Ways)

There are a number of deaths to choose from for John Barrowman's Captain Jack Harkness. It's a big part of having a character made immortal by way of being made into a fixed point of time. While a number of these deaths were in spin off show Torchwood, there are still a fair few within the confines of Doctor Who itself.

However, while he has died numerous times since being brought back to life by Rose/Bad Wolf, he only died once beforehand, and that's his death in the Series 1 finale, The Parting of the Ways. Jack started off as a cowardly character (in his own words), conning people during the Second World War, yet he discovers his bravery during his time with the Doctor. As such, his sacrifice whilst trying to hold off an invading force of Daleks epitomises that. He's fighting against the odds and doesn't even know that he'll be coming back - like he does with almost every other death since.

It may not be his most spectacular demise, and it might not be the one that showcases his cheeky charm the most, but it's the character's bravest exit and makes him into a hero to admire, setting him on the road to his own spin off series.
