Doctor Who: 15 Greatest NuWho Deaths So Far

11. Rory Williams (Cold Blood)

Doctor Who Osgood
BBC

Speaking of characters that die a lot, Rory Williams dies so much that the Silence mention it in the Series 6 finale. Rory himself even mentions it during Mark Gatiss episode Night Terrors, also in Series 6. He's had a pretty rough time of it, to be honest. He's been erased from time only to be brought back as a plastic Roman, he's drowned only to be rescued by a Siren and resusicated by Amy, and he's fallen from a roof to his demise to avoid the Weeping Angels.

It's the first that makes this list. however. It happens in a scene at the end that elevated the two-parter it was in to must-watch viewing. With everything seemingly resolved and the TARDIS team about to head off to other adventures, the angered Silurian military commander, Restac, takes a final shot. It hits Rory who collapses to the ground and dies with Amy over him. The Doctor then has to pull her away as the light from a crack in time erases him from existence.

It was a shocking moment, especially coming in the denouement of the episode. All the actors play it with the gut-wrenching emotion it deserves, moving the heartache onto the audience. And the sudden change as Amy forgets Rory makes the scene even more tragic, and definitely deserving of a place here.
