Doctor Who: 15 Greatest NuWho Deaths So Far

7. Oswin Oswald (Asylum Of The Daleks)

Doctor Who Osgood
BBC

Jenna Coleman's appearance in Asylum of the Daleks, before she had even started in her role as companion Clara Oswald, was a huge shock for fans. No one was expecting her to show up so early, and certainly not in the middle of a Dalek asylum. Most people weren't expecting her to become a Dalek, either. Admittedly, the death of Victorian Clara arguably generated more mystery, creating the idea of "The Girl Twice Dead", but the initial death of Oswin created just as much intrigue. Questions were asked about whether or not this character really was going to be the new companion, and if this meant she was destined to end up being turned into a Dalek.

However, like with other deaths on this list, the emotional aspect raises this scene above the rest. Coleman's portrayal of the quick and clever Oswin won a number of fans over, which served to make her death even more shocking and heartbreaking. Oswin's demise was also a fantastic character moment. She managed to make a statement and reinforce her humanity by giving the Doctor and his friends a chance to escape, before sticking it to the Daleks by making them forget their archenemy altogether. Run, you clever boy...
