Doctor Who: 20 Things You Didn't Know About The Tenth Doctor

17. They Almost Explained His English Accent

Anyone who has heard Tennant speak in real life will know that he actually sounds very different to his Time Lord persona.

Tennant is Scottish, and was born in Bathgate in 1971. However, his Doctor has an Estuary English accent, quite similar to that of companion Rose Tyler.

This link was very nearly made canon, as explained by the actor during a radio interview.

Tennant said that a scene had been filmed explaining that the Doctor had imprinted on Rose "like a duck hatching from an egg", which is where the accent came from.

Unfortunately, the line was cut from the final broadcast, so it looked like Russell T Davies just really hated Scottish people.
