The Tenth Doctor makes his first appearance at the end of The Parting of the Ways, in which Eccleston's Ninth Doctor bows out after absorbing the power of the time vortex.
Viewers had no idea what to make of their new leading man. In his first appearance, he just sort of stood there, looking a bit confused in a leather jacket that was far too big for him.
However, fans didn't have to wait until Tennant's first full episode The Christmas Invasion to get a measure of him, as he turned up for the BBC's Children in Need event.
