Doctor Who: 25 Actors We'd Love To Call The Doctor

8. Colin Morgan

Alright, maybe we do only have fifteen actors. Colin Morgan first came to Whovian attentions when he appeared in the masterpiece 'Midnight', but later became more widely known for his role as Merlin. And actually, it seemed like a stepping stone to a character like the Doctor; Merlin showcased a precocious wisdom, a sweet kindness towards his friends, and occasionally acted like a child. Morgan was massively popular in the show, and unfortunately hasn't done an awful lot on television or in film since. But it hasn't stopped Merlin fans mentioning him in connection to the Doctor. If the show ever needs a young Doctor again, his name won't be far from the top of the list.

7. Bill Nighy

billnighy600 I know, Bill Nighy's said he wouldn't do the role either. And he's congratulated the Beeb on casting Peter Capaldi. But he'd have made an excellent Doctor, wouldn't he? An avuncular, eccentric, hilarious, charming and shrewd Time Lord, and judging by his cameo in 'Vincent and the Doctor', more than capable of moving us all to tears. And if he was anything like his rockstar alter ego from Still Crazy or Love Actually... I won't even finish that sentence. I'll just let you mull it over.
