Doctor Who: 25 Actors We'd Love To Call The Doctor

4. Michael Sheen

...And maybe Michael Sheen will be the first Welsh Doctor. Sheen is another actor who seems fantastic for the role; he's got the otherworldly down to a tee (see Tron: Legacy), but he's a finely-detailed character actor. His portrayals of Tony Blair and Brian Clough prove that he can nail the nuances of a person's behavioural quirks; could you imagine him trying to play twelve people at once, as well as giving his own spin? And that alone is a reason to at least audition him next time around. And we'll need a Welsh Doctor at some point, surely?

3. Maggie Smith

Watching her performances in Harry Potter, Maggie Smith gives endless masterclasses in how to act. She's simply fantastic, subtle, dry and with a huge presence; she's one of the finest actresses this countries produced. But whilst so many of Britain's greatest actors stay mainly in Hollywood these days - and a lot of those names can also be watched in Harry Potter - Maggie Smith is currently stealing the show in Downton Abbey. Which begs the question: what would it take for her to appear in Doctor Who? Though it would brilliant for her to be the Doctor, we'd take any old appearance to be honest. Though her Doctor wouldn't be one to be messed with. If I was a Dalek, I wouldn't argue with her.
