Doctor Who: 25 Actors We'd Love To Call The Doctor

14. Huge Laurie

Having already made his name as one doctor, playing the title character in House, Hugh Laurie is yet another actor whose genius lies in the balance between his comedy and his darkness. And whilst many of us would love him to take Stephen Fry as his companion, he would probably be what we imagine Capaldi will be; gruff, unapologetic and unforgiving, but with a warm and witty heart. He's definitely an actor that would bring the Doctor more in line with his ninth incarnation, and he'd generate a lot of buzz both sides of the Atlantic.

But would he do his British or American accent? Only joking, don't worry.

13. Damian Lewis

damianlewis600 Damian Lewis is probably the Doctor's choice for who he'd like to be next: ginger. The Homeland star is certainly a commanding and swaggering presence on screen; he's also huge in America, and though he probably wouldn't bring Claire Danes to Cardiff with him - that would be nice, though - he might convert Barack Obama into a Whovian, as the US president's already a massive fan of Homeland. According to Lewis himself, a lot of Americans don't even realise he's British. Why not con them into thinking he's the first American Doctor?
