Doctor Who: 30 NuWho Characters Who Would've Made Fantastic Full-Time Companions
14. Grace O'Brien
Appeared in: The Woman Who Fell to Earth.
Grace was nurturing, always encouraging Graham and Ryan. She was one of the first faces the Thirteenth Doctor saw, giving them an instant connection. She thrived on helping the Doctor with fun-loving fearlessness: running after Tim Shaw, and whipping off that high-vis jacket with determination. All that combined with Grace's gravitas created a nice balance with Jodie Whittaker's high-energy Doctor.
Of course hindsight is a wonderful thing. The three's a crowd companion dynamic that eventually stifled any meaningful character development for Yaz and Ryan. A Grace and Graham double act would've made for a better, er, fam for the Doctor. As Chris Chibnall wrote in the script: Graham looks to Grace - the formidable partnership. Unfortunately we never got to see it fully materialise.
